غیرت کے نام پر قتل کو سمجھنے کا کوئی مخصوص اور سادہ طریقہ نہیں ہے،بلکہ اِس کو جانچنے کے کئی زاویے ہیں۔ بہت سی سماجی اور روایتی محرکات مِل کر ایک ایسے مخصوص زیہن کی تشکیل کرتے ہیں، جو ہر لحاظ ، اَحترام اور رشتے کو بلائے طاق رکھ کر جنس کی بنیاد پر اَپنی بیٹی، ماں، بہن اور بیوی کی جان لے لیتا ہے۔ اِس ضمن میں سب سے اہم پاکستانی معاشرے میں خاندانی نظام اور بالخصوص اَزدواجی تعلق کی تشکیل اور اہمیت ہے۔
اَزدواجی زندگی کی بنیاد چار اِجزا پر ہے۔ اِن میں زات پات سب سے پہلا عنصر ہے جو بالخصوص دیہی علاقوں میں زیادہ واضح طور پر نظر آتا ہے۔ لڑکے اور لڑکی کا ایک زات سے تعلق رکھنا اکژ خاندانوں میں شادی کے لیئےاہم شرط کا درجہ رکھتا ہے اور تمام صوبوں میں بالخصوص دیہاتوں میں ہم زات کو فوقیت دیتے ہیں۔ البتہ اِس معاملے میں ہم زات کی بندش شہری علاقوں میں لمبے عرصے سے مقیم خاندانوں میں کم نظر آتی ہے ۔ شادی کرنے کے لئیے دوسرا اہم عنصر لڑکے اور لڑکی کے خاندانوں کی طبقاتی حیثیت ہے،ورنہ شادی کے دوران یا بعد میں مسائل پیدا ہو جاتے ہیں۔ تیسرا اہم عنصر دونوں کی ظاہری وضح قطع ہوتا ہے، جو لڑکیوں کے لئیے زیادہ اہمیت کا حامل بن جاتی ہے۔ لڑکے کا گھرانہ لڑکی تلاش کرتے وقت مناسب قد سے لے کر صاف رنگت تک خودساختہ خوبصورتی کے معیار کو ملحوظِ خاطر رَکھتے ہیں۔ چوتھی اہم ترجیع لڑکے کی معاشی حیثیت، قطع نظر اُس کی تعلیمی قابلیت کے ہے۔
کُچھ گھرانوں میں شادی کے بعد کام کرنے والی خواتیں کو محض پیسے کمانے والی مشین ہی سمجھ لیا جاتا ہے اور مرد جس کو مزہبی اور سماجی اعتبارسے کُنبے کا سربراہ سمجھا جاتا ہے، اَکثر اوقات اپنی بیوی کی کمائی پر اِنحصار کرتا اور اپنی زمہ داری سے آنکھ چُراتا ہوا نظر آتا ہے۔
پاکستانی معاشرے کی متعصبانہ مزہبی اَساس کو سمجھتے ہوئے "غیرت" کے نام پر قتل جیسی معاشرتی بُرایوں سے نمٹنے کے لیئے مزہب کی جدید تقاضوں پر مشتمل تشریح ایک اہم کردار اَدا کر سکتی ہے۔ یہاں یہ کہنے میں کوئی آر نہیں ہے کہ اِسلام معاشرے میں قطعاً کسی بھی لحاظ سے جنسی تفریق اور زیادتی کا درس نہیں دیتا۔

Considering male dominance in every relationship as a part of cultural phenomenon in patriarchal society of Pakistan; male population has more responsibilities than their female counterparts, ranging from a balanced matrimonial relationship to acquiring higher education and accordingly adaptation of profound profession. Contrary to this expectation, the declining trend among male population for higher education and their inadequate job placement respectively has disturbed the social equilibrium as it revolves around the wishes and commands of male members in family relationships. Various reasons can be cited for this declining trend in male education. First is ignorance of parents, followed by absence of focus, at some place use of narcotics, weak social values and attraction towards short-cuts in life, which motivate them to adopt illegal ways to attain high social position in a short span. Apart from higher education and profound profession; another responsibility neglected by Pakistani men is providing security to their family by fulfilling their financial needs, followed by spending quality time with wife and children, developing a consensus in house over major family issues, respecting women choice of education/employment and restrain from illogical/baseless restrictions on family. Contrary to this, the growing violence cases against women by their male family members in Pakistan are depicting negligence of male towards their prime responsibility. To improve this situation of Pakistani men, the prime duty lies with mothers as by providing equal opportunities and dividing equal responsibilities between male and female child; they can give a message of gender equality, which in the long run could ensure a balance in the society by disapproving the dominance of male as father, son, brother and husband over their female family members as mother, daughter, sister and wife.

In age of modernism, some aspects of Pakistani society are still under the strict domination of traditional and conservative norms and controls. For example gender discrimination. Although women have excelled globally in nearly every field but in Pakistan, they are still struggling for their existence. The main hurdle being the misinterpretation of religion along with socio-cultural traditions. It becomes more complicated when both are amalgamated in such a manner that at times it becomes nearly impossible to make a distinction between the two. Although, some sections of Pakistani females are able to receive education and acquire good jobs, nonetheless in family matters they are still helpless because of socio-cultural pressures under the guise of one flimsy pretext or the other. It is done keeping aside all relevant verses and practices of Prophet (PBUH), which emphasize on justified treatment with female in all relationships. Today, education and technology has opened up new avenues for women and they are, if given a chance, capable to raise their voice against all kinds of gender related injustices of the society. Nevertheless, individual spaces of women are yet to be recognized, as females are still known with tags of being single, married, divorced or widowed. Pakistani women can attain their rightful place, only when the mothers will start treating their daughters equal with sons, at home by providing them sense of belonging, instead of constantly reminding them that their ultimate home is some unknown household and the one they are born in and brought up, with impermeable memories.
